First official Behind the scenes footage from Bong Of The Dead!
Happy New Year to everyone out there who is a friend or fan of Bong Of The Dead!
2010 is finally here and it is going to be an exciting time for me as a Producer/Director as I am about to complete my first major feature film. I know I should have started blogging a long time ago but I never had the time to be quite honest. However I have promised myself that this new years I will make the time and the effort so here I am! In this blog I have also included a small video clip with some behind the scenes of the film.  From time to time I will also include pictures and small snippets of the films journey as often as I can in order to allow the world to catch a glimpse into this exciting up and coming zombie film.
Until now most of Bong Of The Dead or “BOTD” as I’ve come to call it has been shrouded in secrecy. Only recently I have decided to release bits and pieces of the film in order to show everyone what is possible when you have limited funds but a wild imagination and lots of passion and determination. When I first set out to film BOTD I had a big script which I wrote as I was working as an EPK Producer on a Hollywood film called “Stan Helsing”. I knew that in order for me to make BOTD the way I wanted to make it I would have to fund it entirely myself. This way I get to keep all control from creative to executive. In early 2009 my wife and I decided to pool together everything bit of cash we had, then call in a few favors from friends and family members as crew in order to make this film. By the time it was said and done we ended up making a great film for only $15,ooo Canadian that looks like a million bucks! I am proud to say it again that BOTD only cost 15K because I managed to put together the perfect cast with the perfect crew of about 25 people and we banged out the film in 15 days solid working an average of 15 hours a day. Whoa three 15′ns in a row weird…(cue Twilight Zone music here). My wife Jodi and I of course put in 20 hours a day¬† because I was not only Producing and Directing but also helping her with preparing all the food for the catering tent for our cast and crew.
On top of Producing and Directing I also acted as the Director of Photography as well as the camera operator. I know my shots and wanted to be sure that I could get the shots I needed in time with out having to convey information to a camera man. By Directing and operating the camera at the same time I was able to get my shots quickly and move through the days rapidly without sacrificing quality which is one of the most important things to me as a Producer/Director.
I will include more blogs in the future that will share more of the behind the scenes as well as some insight on how it all came to be. In the meantime I will be working around the clock on the final editing of the film preparing it for release in the next few months. It has been a long process and one that I do not regret because the film is being made the way I intend it to be made from start to finish. Also I dont have a crew of 20 to 30 people helping in post therefore Im doing 95% percent of all post production work myself! The reason I want to do this is because I want to send a loud message to Hollywood letting them know what I can do for only 15K so that a major studio will give my shot at directing a larger studio film. Ideally I would love to work with Robert Rodriguez and do a film for his production studio which is my goal for now. Robert if you read this give a call and lets make some shit as you put it!  I currently only have 2 other people who will be helping me with the final touches on BOTD. I have a great sound designer named Andres Santana who is going to be mixing the entire film in 5.1 and my Co-Producer and long time friend Vincent Akira Yoshida who will be doing some of the 3-D composites for the film.
I know there are literally thousands of people globally as well as locally who have already heard of the film¬† and are anticipating its release. I will do my very best to get it to you all very soon!¬† In the meantime please keep on checking the website www.bongofthedead.com for more great updates about the film. Also please remember to tell everyone who you know that cares about this movie so that they too can stay in the loop. As always most importantly don’t forget to spread the word that there is a kick ass new zombie flick called “Bong Of The Dead” coming your way soon! its everyone’s support that keeps me plugging away and I cant wait to deliver!
