In late 2008 first time director Thomas Newman pursued his vision of creating his first masterpiece calling card film with only $5000. He set out with a single camera and a crew consisting mainly of friends and family and began production. After a grueling 15 day shooting schedule the film was finished on October 3rd 2008 and ready for post production. Thomas headed into his basement in-home editing suite and began the process of creating what has actually already been dubbed as a "cult hit"! He would dedicate the next 3 years of his life faced with even more grueling hours all the while burdened by financial stress and digital mayhem. From computer software glitches to hard drive failures and even losing the entire movie at one point, he was able to maintain focus and complete his movie to the last final detail by himself.
After completing the movie Thomas Newman immediately retained the services of Rob Straight of Horizon Motion Pictures in Vancouver. Rob saw the efforts that Thomas had poured into his first movie and was impressed at the final results. He instantly saw the film as marketable and therefore immediately signed the filmmaker in order to represent him as his Sales Agent at film markets and festivals around the world. Most recently Bong Of The Dead was taken to Cannes by Rob Straight who screened the movie for the world for the first time on May 12th and 14th at the official Cannes Independent Film Festival.
